This medal represents the perseverance of South Korea, much like the athletes competing in the games. Along with the strength of the country comes great beauty. The country's flag is included in the design with symbols representing peace, unification, creation, light, and eternity. The bottom half represents the seaside cliff of Uisangdae Pavilion, a historical site in Gangwon. The top half represents the many other beautiful historical temples throughout the country.
